98% of men from Central Kenya are unromantic – TikToker Esther Migwi

TikToker Esther Migwi has stirred up the marriage debate after taking a playful but sharp swipe at men from Central Kenya.

Speaking on Friday, September 11, 2026, Migwi claimed that many “wanaume wa mlima” struggle to balance the attention, money, and care they give their wives and their side partners.

And according to her, the result can sometimes be painfully obvious at home.

“Unapata bibi anakaa kama jini,” Migwi said, while arguing that some wives are left looking tired and neglected as their husbands allegedly treat their side partners much better.

She went as far as claiming that only 2% of Central Kenya men know how to balance their relationships, leaving the other 98% needing a serious lesson in the art of keeping everyone happy.

Side chick gets the birthday

Migwi illustrated her argument with the birthday example.

She claimed that some men can complain when their wives ask for a birthday celebration for their children, saying they cannot afford it, yet allegedly spend heavily celebrating children connected to their side relationships.

Her question was simple: why bring the champagne treatment outside while the main house is running on survival mode?

Migwi said this kind of imbalance can leave wives feeling financially and emotionally neglected.

She also argued that some men may spend heavily on accommodation, schooling and other needs outside their marriages while leaving their wives and children with less.

‘Poverty is the enemy’

Migwi insisted that she was not encouraging women to leave their marriages.

Instead, she said men should look at the reasons some women become unhappy and eventually consider walking away.

“Poverty is the enemy,” she said, linking financial pressure to some of the decisions women make about relationships.

She also compared men from Central Kenya with Luo men, claiming that Luo men are more likely to invest in maintaining the appearance and comfort of their wives.

Migwi acknowledged that men from the Mountain region might not take kindly to her comments, but maintained that her point was about learning how to “balance.”

Her overall message was delivered with plenty of humour, but the subject underneath the jokes was serious: according to Migwi, women increasingly want financial security, attention and visible investment in their marriages.

And for the men she was addressing, her advice was rather straightforward: take care of home before the side hustle starts looking better than the main business.
