Mercy Makini has seemingly found a creative way to respond to her estranged husband Morara Kebaso’s latest chapter in the family house saga.
Instead of holding a press conference or writing a long post, Mercy took Kenyans on a little furniture shopping tour, with Morara’s own voice providing the soundtrack.
The mother of one was filmed walking around an outdoor furniture showroom, checking out sofas, beds and dining sets while audio from one of Morara’s old interviews played in the background.
And then came the interesting part.
Mercy appeared to respond to claims surrounding the house Morara says he helped transform for her parents in Kisii.
Mercy brings the KSh70,000 story
In the old interview, Morara recalled the early days of their relationship, when he was doing online writing and living in a single room.
He said Mercy joined him and later revealed that she had KSh70,000 saved in the bank.
“My wife came to our marriage rich, you know me, I was doing online writing at that time. Niko kwa single room, my wife came joined me,” Morara said.
He went on to recall how he quickly grabbed a pen and paper after learning about her savings, apparently ready to turn the money into a business opportunity.
Mercy’s video appeared to add her own spin to that history.
Her message was simple but rather loaded: she wanted to remind viewers that she did not leave her parents’ home empty handed or simply wait for someone to change her family’s fortunes.
“We left home to change home,” she repeatedly said in the clip.
The phrase worked perfectly for the furniture promotion, but it also sounded like a subtle response to the ongoing conversation about who did what for her family.
The Morara and Mercy saga continues
Mercy did not directly mention Morara by name or launch into a full-blown social media battle.
Instead, she let his old interview do some of the talking while she walked around the furniture showroom, creating what could easily pass for a normal shopping vlog with an unusually spicy soundtrack.
The exchange comes after Morara shared before and after photos of her parents’ home, saying he had personally supervised its transformation from a mud structure into a brick house.
The two have continued to publicly address different aspects of their failed relationship, with their versions of events sometimes appearing to tell very different stories.
For now, Mercy appears to be saying that while Morara may have a construction story to tell, she also has a KSh70,000 chapter of her own.
